An Afternoon with Kimberly Leeper & Jackie Cramer: Intro to Food Forest Workshop

June 3, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Dear Friends of The Orchard,

In the wonderful and educational space that is the Community Orchard of West Seattle, begin to learn about, and practice, the design process of analyzing your site for a food forest – a garden modeled on the structure of young natural woodland and utilizing multifunctional plants of which most are edible.

We will also explore some benefits of food forests (ex. less maintenance, beneficial wildlife habitat). We will wrap up with some hands-on plant guild design and planting time.

Helpful resources will be shared with you to aid you in successfully growing your own urban/suburban food forest!

Light snacks and refreshments provided. Feel free to bring some to share!

COWS is honored to host this class with Kimberly Leeper & Jackie Cramer.

Kimberly Leeper has been a Seattlite for 22 years and is an educator, permaculture designer, plant and wildlife enthusiast who specializes in Pacific NW native plants, beneficial wildlife habitat, and food forests/edible forest gardens. She has a background in teaching and learning with children and adults in a variety of settings; volunteering with community gardens and plant-related endeavors – Beacon Food Forest for past 4 years; and leading a sustainable landscaping company – Mariposa Naturescapes (2005 – 2016) and Oasis Edible Naturescapes (2016 to present).

Jackie Cramer is a permaculture designer, landscaper and educator. She has worked the land for over twenty years as farmer, planner, and community organizer. She is co founder of the Beacon Food Forest, and the permaculture education collective. She continues to learn from the land and people she serves.
