West Seattle CoolMom news:

  • Coordinator Note – After February’s meeting Laura Elfline will be stepping aside from her role as West Seattle Chapter Coordinator.
  • Who’s next?  There are many ways to run a CoolMom group.  The key components are to hold monthly meetings and to keep the beat groovin’ to help educate, support and advocate towards climate change and a healthy future for our families.

Laura Elfline would be  happy to answer any questions that might help you think about how you might run the group (, 206-715-0893) or contact our Executive Director (and past West Seattle Co-Coordinator) Terri Glaberson (

CoolMom would also like to give a Shout Out to C&P Coffee Company, which has been West Seattle CoolMom’s official meeting spot since the chapter’s inception. Month after month they have been outstanding hosts – letting us take over the center section of their establishment and stay later than their normal operating hours. The owners (Cam and Pete) contribute to global healing by supporting local causes and people within their spheres. In short their gracious and warm hospitality never goes without great appreciation. Over the last month or so, C&P has been raising money for one of their employee’s medical costs associated with managing a major health issue. If you are so moved to help them help their employee, please contact Cam or Pete at the coffee house or by email at

Community Edible Garden @ C&P Coffee – next steps… Neighborhood Appreciation Day 2010 – Feb 6 – first Saturday.  Neighbor Appreciation Day is a grassroots celebration. People and organizations organize block parties, open houses, award ceremonies, potluck dinners, and work parties to recognize and encourage caring neighbors. In that honor, we’ll be working on the next phase of the community garden. The initial phase was such an amazing event to be part of, the sequel is sure to be as good if not better!

Last Month: The Green Cleaning Demo was a great success! Not only did about 30 people show up to learn new tricks to the trade, but we’ve also gotten a ton of press over the event (some still developing but here’s a link to the ws blog’s story. If you missed the event, you can learn what went on here: and/or download the recipes presented here:
