The Seattle Parks and Recreation Environmental Learning Centers (Camp Long, Discovery Park, Carkeek Park) all host First Saturday free nature walks. This First Saturday Camp Long will have naturalists at Me-Kwa-Mooks Park for a free exploration in the protected greenspace which is Me-Kwa-Mooks.
Pronounced “sbuh-KWAH-buks” in the Nisqually dialect, it means “shaped like a bear’s head.” That’s what the Duwamish tribe called the West Seattle peninsula when the first European-American settlers landed on Alki in 1851. Today, the hillside along Me-Kwa-Mooks Park is being restored. Please register by November 6 by calling Camp Long at 684-7434.
