October Spokespeople Ride: Farm & Fowl Tour

The October ride will start at the north entrance to South Seattle Community College, 5800 16th Avenue SW.  Riders should meet at noon (12:00 pm) near the entrance.

September Spokespeople Ride Hits Two Farmers Markets

Spokespeople West Seattle rides again to visit and shop at West Seattle’s newest farmers market at Highland Park. We will also be riding to the original West Seattle farmers market at the Alaska Junction and finish the 11.67 mile ride at the West Seattle PCC. Bring currency and safe and sturdy cargo carriers. Support your local Urban Farmers.

This ride is characterized as “easy” with some hills for a total distance of just under 12 miles.  The Spokespeople rides are “stay together” rides which means the riders keep pace with each other and wait for tail riders when the route changes direction.  In the event of rain, the ride will NOT be cancelled.

‘Streets For All’ Funding Discussion @ City Hall

Great City and Streets for All are hosting a business forum Wednesday, September 8, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm.  Co-hosting Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin (and possibly other Councilmembers) who will talk about the range of transportation funding options. Watch the discussion unfold at the Brown Bag Forum: Business Leaders & Streets for All.

The forum will take place at the Bertha Knight Landes room in City Hall, 600 4th Ave.

At this meeting, Streets for All will present its objectives, potential funding options and listen to the business community perspective about what funding options work and what options don’t work. Make sure your voice is heard and attend and contribute to the discussion.

Sustainable West Seattle, West Seattle Spokespeople, and CoolMom are among the dozens of Seattle organizations who are members of Streets For All.

Learn to ride your bike safely — right here in West Seattle

Spokespeople West Seattle will be riding a 7.5 mile loop of Alki Beach on Aug. 1 enjoying the peak of summer before the crowds arrive at the beach.

The ride leaves Alki Bike and Board 2606 California Avenue SW. at 10 A.M. Bike safety checks and helmet fits are done prior to the ride so come at least 15 minutes early.

Bring a little money for a stop on Alki Beach for a summer treat. As always Spokespeople ride together and regroup on hill climbs. Bicycle riding advice is gladly given.

This ride is in partnership with Cascade Bicycle Club, Sustainable West Seattle and Spokespeople. Ride leaders are Stu Hennessey and Bill Reiswig.

July West Seattle Spokespeople Ride: Admiral to Downtown

The ride this month is from West Seattle, North Admiral to Downtown.  The ride meets at Alki Bike and Board, 2606 California Ave. SW at 10:00 am.

This is a stay together ride at a leisurely and easy pace 11.5 miles round trip, with hills..

The route has hills with limited auto traffic utilizing bike paths, bike routes and share roads. Regroups will occur at the top of hills.

Ride Leaders will be Stu Hennessey and Bill Reiswig with middle group support riders. Bike checks and helmet fits will be done prior to the ride. Helmets are required. Steady rain cancels this ride.

This is a stay together ride at a leisurely and easy pace 8-12 mph.

The route has hills with limited auto traffic utilizing bike paths, bike routes and share roads. Regroups will occur at the top of hills.

Ride Leaders will be Stu Hennessey and Bill Reiswig with middle group support riders. Bike checks and helmet fits will be done prior to the ride. Helmets are required. Steady rain cancels this ride.

Bicycle Life – Tonight at South Seattle Community College

Come by Monday, May 17, for the next Sustainable West Seattle Community Forum to learn about making bicycling easier and safer with demonstrations on electric bicycles, talks on bicycle use from our own West Seattle Spokespeople group, a bicycle maintenance demonstration and words of wisdom from local bicycle advocates.  And, get to see the location of the Tool Library as well.

1st West Seattle Spokespeople Official Ride

This is it – the Season Opener

The first Official Cascade Bicycle Club ride for West Seattle Spokespeople is for people who would like support for transportation bicycle use. Cathy Tuttle founder Spokespeople Wallingford along with long time bicycle commuters Bill Reiswig and Stu Hennessey will lead this ride.

The ride is scheduled for Sunday May 2nd, 10:00 am from Alki Bike and Board, 2606 California Ave. SW. The ride length is 6 miles using an alternative route selection riding the California Ave. business corridor to the West Seattle’s Morgan Junction with a stop at the West Seattle Farmers Market. The pace will be easy/leisure between 8 and 12 mph and the terrain will be “some hills.”

This is a “stay together” ride with the ride leader, middle pack and back of the pack, sweep support. Heavy rain will cancel this ride. Be prepared to do a little shopping at the West Seattle Farmers Market with money and safe bicycle cargo equipment. Helmets are required and bike safety checks will precede the ride. West Seattle Spokespeople ‘unofficial’ 1st Ride

Unofficial Spokespeople training ride – Sunday April 11th, 10am to 1pm.

The first ride for West Seattle Spokespeople will be an unofficial training ride for any Sustainable West Seattle members that would be interested in helping with conducting this ride or would like training for transportation bicycle us.

Bill Reiswig (SWS co-founder) and Stu Hennessey (SWS member and Alki Bike & Board owner) could use some extra rider support as we escort folks who would like to become bicycle transportation savvy.   Long time bicycle commuters Bill Reiswig and Stu Hennessey will be leading this pack.

The ride is scheduled for Sunday April 11th, 10:00 am from Alki Bike and Board, 2606 California Ave. SW. The ride length is 6 miles with an alternative route selection focus, riding the California Avenue business corridor to Morgan Junction with a stop at the West Seattle Farmers Market.

The pace will be leisure between 10 and 15 mph and the terrain will be “some hills”.
