Community Orchard Hosting Rainwater Cistern Workshop

Want to learn more about rainwater, how to capture it, store it and use it?  Learn at a free workshop to be held at the West Seattle Community Orchard, at the north end of the South Seattle Community Campus, near the Horticulture center.

Capturing your Rainwater – Beyond Rain Barrels

How can you hold water for your landscape or home use? It’s easier than you think! Find out how to harvest rainwater from your roof or garage for use in your garden (or your whole house) and leave those rainbarrels behind!

One option is cisterns: saves you money, conserves water, prevents stormwater pollution, remedies drainage issues. Learn how to keep your garden well watered in the dry summer months using free water, and how to get started collecting water for indoor use.

This free workshop will cover the basics and benefits of cisterns, the components of a cistern and how they work, how to customize a system for your landscape, and how to get started collecting your rain in a cistern or in the ground itself. Presented by Nikola Davidson of EarthSystemsNW, a local company specializing in cistern installation for residential homeowners.

The  workshop is from 10:00 am through 12:00 noon with a potluck lunch from noon to 1:00 pm and the work party in the Community Orchard from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
