Highland Park Action Committee To Discuss Emergency Preparedness

For September 28th’s meeting this Wednesday, the Highland Park Action Committee is having a guest speaker from the Seattle Office of Emergency Management with a SNAP (Seattle Neighborhoods Actively Prepare) presentation. SNAP is the city’s program to help residents get ready and connected for any potential emergency. It is designed to help us create plans that are specific to our Highland Park needs, we can all help each other become prepared by organizing together.

Bring more news and announcements to Wednesday’s HPAC meeting, held at HPIC on 12th and Holden:

  • 6:30 – Potluck
  • 7:00-8:00 – SNAP Presentation
  • 8:00-8:30 – News and Announcements

Other news and events in the Highland Park area to mark on your calender:

HPIC (Highland Park Improvement Club) is hosting a Harvest Dinner on October 8th at 6:00 pm. Come help initiate another new tradition at HPIC and celebrate a harvest meal with friends and neighbors. Bring a home-made dish to share that celebrates our local harvest, plus a dinner plate to leave behind for HPIC’s community kitchen. www.hpic1919.org

Food Trucks are coming to the HPIC parking lot starting on October 8th around lunchtime! They expect a variety of food trucks and increasing presence as a result of the neighborhood’s demand. The plans are still forming, but to start there will be one or two trucks, so come out and help it become a popular and delicious food destination for Highland Park, Riverview, and beyond!

HPIC is also hosting an evening of theater on Saturday, October 22nd at 7pm (pay what you can). It is a one-night-only production by local theater company Playworks of Arthur Miller’s “I Can’t Remember Anything.” www.hpic1919.org

We have neighbors starting a Friends of Westcrest Park group. They will be coming to speak with us at our October meeting about their efforts, but mark your calender for October 29th from 9-noon for a Work Party.

Our neighbor Rachael Wright has worked hard to successfully secure a grant for pedestrian safety in Highland Park. If you are interested in advocating for a need to safely cross Holden, please mark your calenders for Sun. Nov. 20th and Mon., Nov. 21st for a workshop- HPAC members are encouraged to attend. Email us for more details and contact information if you are interested.

Just a heads up that SDOT is beginning construction of the SW Cloverdale Street Sidewalk Project on the South Side of Cloverdale between 8th and 9th.
