Community Orchard of West Seattle is offering the chance to learn and help this Saturday, June 11, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. The program is called Bountiful Backyard Berries and is free. The Community Orchard is located on the grounds of South Seattle Community College, at the north end near the Horticulture Center.
Cultivate beauty and delicious flavor by integrating productive fruiting plants into your ornamental landscape. Join Community Orchard for a profile of those berries best suited to backyard growing as well as tips on how to make the most of your bountiful harvest. Hint: Shortcake is involved; samples and recipes will be shared!
The instructor for the course is Lorene Edwards Forkner, freelance author, gardener and garden website operator.
Stick around after the class for a work party!
Also Saturday, in the same location and from 1:00 pm through 3:00 pm, the Community Orchard will also be hosting a community workparty, as it gets busy planting the rest of the orchard plot with a wide variety of trees, bushes, and starts. So feel free to drop by, get a little dirty, learn a lot about planting, and help to develop this wonderful community resource.
